About
I am a freelance writer and certified sommelier currently residing in my hometown of Edmonton, Alberta. I have worked in the wine industry for over seven years – I first got into it through a part-time job at cristall’s wine market (back when it was still independently-owned) while I was working on my Honours English degree at the University of Alberta. A couple years later I moved on to deVine Wines & Spirits, where I was Web Administrator for almost two years. At the end of 2008 I obtained my Certified Sommelier designation through the Court of Master Sommeliers.
I penned a weekly wine column in SEE Magazine from December 2007 to December 2009. Recently I began doing some freelance work for Vue Weekly – mainly booze articles in their Dish section, as well as some reviews for the Arts section. I published a book in September 2009, the Book of Canadian Wine, through local publisher Lone Pine Press. I also host quarterly wine tasting dinners at the Chateau Louis Hotel.
I’m not just a wine writer, however – I’m interested in all of the arts, especially poetry, literature and drama. I am also an avid gardener, a casual gamer and a novice knitter. Don’t laugh – it keeps me out of trouble.
